NSSTC User Move In Procedures

Welcome to Huntsville-UAHuntsville-CSPAR. If you are going to have an office in the NSSTC building these are the following steps you need to follow:

1) To get into the building you need an Access Card

2) Once you are in the building you need a key to your office

3) For your office you need a phone

4) Your computer needs to be registered on the network

5) You need an account to login into your computer

6) Finally a VPN account to access your computer from remote.

So we have put together a package with all these forms (each step has a form) and can be accessed HERE.

Also, the information pages tell you where to take each form. Any computer related forms please take it to the CSPAR Systems Administrator.

Space Plasma Interactive Data Analysis and Simulation Laboratory (SPIDASL)

SPIDASL was formed in 1988 as a dedicated facility to meet CSPAR's computational needs.

SPIDASL has grown and evolved with time and is currently centered on a Com paq/HP DS20 Alphaserver with dual 667 MHz Alpha processors, 1 GB of RAM, and 200 GB of disk storage. This system provides CSPAR with processing power, e-mail server, web server, data archive, and data analysis capabilities. The DS20 has an unlimited user license for the Interactive Data Language (IDL) graphics analysis software.

Birkeland Beowulf Cluster

SPIDASL also includes a 12-node PSSC P4 PowerWulf Beowulf cluster, based o n P4 2.8 GHz processors with 40 GB storage per node and 240 GB head node storage.

The cluster includes IDL licenses for additional analysis. In-house data archives include data from the Polar Ultraviolet Imager (UVI) and the Atlas-1 Imaging Spectrometric Observatory (ISO). Online access to CSPAR data archives is provided by web-based search and delivery tools. MatLab and Mathematica licenses are also available for data analysis.

Planned near-term enhancements include expansion of the Beowulf cluster, purchase of a Linux computer server and purchase of a dedicated graphics workstation. The graphics workstation will include a 42" large format printer, a 4800 x 4800 dpi (hardware) flatbed scanner, and a Wacom 12 x 18" graphics tablet. Graphics and analysis software will include IDL, MatLab, Mathematica, Adobe graphic/photo/video suites, Corel graphic suites and Macromedia Studio M X including Flash MX .

Research Labs

Access to SPIDASL resources is provided by personal computers located both in offices and in our computer lab.

These PC's are capable of functioning as X-Windows dev ices for the visualization of data located on the servers, as well as desktop publishing, and running simulations. All systems are connected via a switched ethernet network. UAH is in the process of upgrading its internal and external network connections as a member of the Internet2 consortium.

CSPAR personnel also have access to UAH's campus server (a DEC Alpha 4000 with dual 533 MHz processors and 1 GB of RAM) and the Alabama Supercompute r Authority (ASA) systems.
