- To continue to conduct internationally-recognized research in space physics and aeronomy and related fields. To maintain strong research efforts in current areas of low-energy plasma of the magnetosphere and ionosphere, high-energy particles in the ring current and other magnetospheric regions, electrostatic charging of spacecraft, observations of auroras, optical measurement of the terrestrial thermosphere, solar flares and solar-interplanetary dynamics, and observation of gamma ray bursts, as well as other areas including gravitational theory tests, while developing additional areas of strength, particularly in terms of UAH/CSPAR-led programs involving spacecraft-borne experimentation.
- To continue and enhance the support of graduate education through graduate student involvement in CSPAR-affiliated research programs and the students’ attainment of advanced degrees, and to augment these efforts with continued opportunities for undergraduate student participation.
- To enhance public outreach activities in order to educate the public’s understanding of space research and its benefits to the taxpayers and their children and further enhance the development of a space-science-literate public.
- To enhance research collaboration ties with NASA and other organizations who participate in the NSSTC.
- To maintain a high volume publication record in prestigious journals such as Journal of Geophysical Research and Astrophysical Journal, as well as participate in numerous conferences and meetings, with high visibility in terms of invited talks and occasionally convening meetings, special sessions, and the like.
