Position Announcement:

University of Alabama in Huntsville and NASA/MSFC Postdoctoral position in high-energy astrophysics.

 

The University of Alabama in Huntsville, in association with NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center and the National Space Science and Technology Center, is pleased to invite applications for a NASA-sponsored Postdoctoral Fellowship in High Energy Astrophysics.

Preference will be given to applicants interested in working in collaboration with members of Marshall's X-ray Astronomy Group and UAHuntsville's Physics Department on experimental work of mutual interests, although research in other listed areas will also be considered. Current experimental research areas include the development of grazing-incidence x-ray optics for near term and future missions and the development of x-ray detectors for focal plane and stand-alone use. Other research areas include cosmology, specifically X-ray and Sunyaev-Zel'dovich Effect observations of galaxy clusters, galaxy evolution and X-ray source populations, the physics of compact objects, and X-ray studies of planets and comets. The appointment is customarily for two or more years subject to annual review and to available funding from NASA. The approximate salary range is $43,209-$55,978 with an excellent benefits package. The appointment may start as early as June 2011 and preferably no later than October 2011.
