Call for Papers: "CMEs, prominence eruptions and flares: Onsets and Relationships".
Sponsored by IAGA, IAMAS, and SCOSTEP

1-day Symposium GA 4.02 to be held during the IUGG 99 Assembly,
Birmingham, U.K., July 18-30, 1999.

The Symposium is aimed on new insights of CME's, prominence eruptions and flares. Instruments on the Yohkoh (SXT), SOHO (CDS, SUMER, EIT, LASCO) and TRACE spacecraft allow us to detect the onsets of CMEs, prominence eruptions and flares and to follow them out to 30 solar radii. In addition, full disk magnetograms from the MDI instrument on SOHO are obtained at a regular cadence that permits studies of the evolution of photospheric fields, which should play a crucial role in the conditions that lead to plasma and magnetic field ejection. These observations are changing our understanding of CMEs in a fundamental way and new theories and models are being developed to explain the new observations. This session will involve the results from both observations and theory/modeling.
